Following co-members Hyorin and Dasom in acting, Sistar’s Bora too is up to start her first acting career with SBS’s TV drama Doctor Stranger.
The medical, melodrama tells the story of a skilled surgeon named Park Hoon, played by Lee Jong Suk. After spending time in North Korea, Park Hoon escapes to South Korea, where he finds work at a university hospital. Here, he comes face to face to a huge conspiracy with Korea’s best elite doctor, Han Jae Joon, played by Park Hae Jin. The background of this drama is based on Myungwoo Medical University where the conspiracy surrounds Prime Minister, Jang Suk Joo, played by Chun Ho Jin.
In the drama, Bora is set to play a North Korean defector Lee Chang Yi, who also finds herself working in South Korea. They meet when the main chracter goes to China in order to find his first love Song Jae Hee, played by Jin Sae Yeon. Lee Chang Yi tries to save money in any way possible in order to bring her mother to China from North Korea. The viewers will be able to see a strange chemistry between Lee Chang Yi and Park Hoon as they rely on each other for help. Her character soon takes a liking to the young doctor.
With recent increase in K-pop idols acting in prime TV series and films, many of them proved to be good actors and actresses as well. Will Bora exhibit a fantastic acting ability as a rookie actress, given that speaking and acting in North Korean dialect is much difficulty for many of the actresses and actors? In a press launch in April, Director Jin Hyuk admitted that he was a “big fan of Sistar” and joshed that his motivation for casting the girl group rapper was somewhat “selfish.”
